UK ORDERS have now opened for what promises to be a hot company car favourite – Volkswagen’s Golf GTD, the car that aims to provide Golf GTI standards of excitement for diesel drivers.

Prices for the VW Golf GTD start at £25,285, a modest increase of £310 over the outgoing model.

There are four versions – three and five door cars, each with a choice of manual or self-shifting DSG gearboxes, with a five-door DSG car coming in at £27,355.

0-62mph in 7.5 seconds and up to 67.3mpg says it all

All versions share the same powerful four-cylinder 184PS 2.0-litre diesel, delivering 0-62mph in 7.5 seconds.

Cars with manual gearboxes turn in a combined 67.3mpg and CO2 emissions of 109g/km, although a DSG-equipped five-door doesn’t do quite as well at 122g/km and 60.1mpg.

Equipment includes smoked LED rear lights, bi-xenon headlamps and 18-inch alloys. Inside there are tartan ‘Jacara Grey’ sports seats, a black roof lining, a sports steering wheel, and stainless steel pedals, along with a GTD-specific gear lever, trim strips and instrument cluster.

DAB digital radio, Bluetooth and iPod connectivity are standard too.

Options include nineteen-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery, keyless entry, touch-screen sat-nav and an enhanced Dynaudio sound system with a ten-channel amplifier and eight speakers.
